Hockey coach Sandeep Sangwan approached the Delhi High Court after snatching the Dronacharya award.
Hockey coach Sandeep Sangwan on Tuesday asked the Delhi High Court to direct the government to consider him for the Dronacharya Award (Regular Category) for the year 2021 for his performance as a coach. Justice Rekha Pali asked Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing the Center, to take directions on Sandeep Sangwan's petition and fixed 12 November 2021 for further hearing.
Senior counsel Rahul Mehra, appearing for Sangwan, told the court that the petitioner is a highly educated and highly experienced hockey coach.
In his petition, Sangwan has challenged the decision of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports not to nominate him for the Dronacharya Award on 2 November 2021.
In its application, the Delhi High Court, filed by Sangwan, Advocate R Arunadhari Air, was asked to direct the Government to award the Dronacharya Award for the year 2021 to the petitioner for his performance as a coach on merit basis. (Regular Category) According to the points system introduced in compliance with the orders of this court in the strange facts and circumstances of the present case.
According to the request, Sangwan has trained four members of the team that won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, as well as several other Olympians. Members have been awarded Padma Shri, Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna Award.
Having been the coach for over fifteen years, the applicant has also worked with the coach on several occasions as the manager of the national men's team.
The petitioner sought to direct the Center to set a suitable time for the announcement of Dronacharya Awards and other sports awards in the future, i.e. by the end of May each year, to provide a suitable time and opportunity. In this regard, the elite players.
